Breaking News and Information...
Cupcake was a 3 year old lab mix that had finally found a great, loving home and had settled down into a family routine after life as a stray in several dog shelters. Her family doted on her and she returned the love ten-fold. That all came to an end when she consumed bromethalin, a form of rat poison. The owners were unaware that she ingested anything at all. She started to cry in pain and whimpered when anyone touched her head or neck. She became more and more depressed and became unstable and weak on her legs. The owners took her to several veterinarians including the Stuart Animal Hospital. All the tests and radiographs were normal. She ended up developing cerebral edema and the brain swelled to the point where she lost consciousness. She went on life support and was allowed to pass peacefully. The pet emergency center reported that two other dogs died of bromethaline poisoning this past week. There is no known antidote to this toxin. I urge all pet owners to call and write authorities to ban the sale of this product.
